Are you a typical client for hypnotherapy?

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

“Who is a typical client for hypnotherapy? What would a client come to see me for?” asks Vinings’ Hypnotherapist and Past Life Regression Therapist, Judy Sharp.

I have been looking through my client files recently, analysing who it is who has come to see me, and why.

The age range is from mid-20s to late 60s, with a couple of clients in their 70s. Proportion about 1/3 men to 2/3 women. Issues range far and wide, from various fears and phobias to giving up smoking; from weight problems to pain control. But actually, underlying many of these “presenting problems” as we call them, were emotional and relationship issues.

Typically a woman will reach that point in her life when the youngest child is just off to university, there could well be a crisis of some kind in the relationship with her husband, perhaps issues from her childhood have been triggered …. any one of these on its own would be enough to pile on weight, but two or more and it is almost certain that there will be comfort eating and it will be tough to get rid of the excess weight. I don’t recommend more hours in the gym or fewer lettuce leaves for lunch; rather I help the client to trace back the real root cause of the issue, and we resolve it at source, be that childhood in this life or way back in another lifetime.

Or it may be that a client will say something like, “I feel something’s come over me” or “I’m not myself” or “I want my old self back:” Have you found yourself saying that? That indicates to me that you could well have picked up a spirit “Passenger” along the way. Nothing dramatic, it can be sorted out very easily – and voilá, you have your old self back!

Fear of success; addictive behaviours; nagging anxiety; sleep walking or activity in a sleep state; lack of confidence: do any of those ring a bell with you? If so – you are a typical client for hypnotherapy, and I would love to hear from you!

Tackling Fears & Phobias with Hypnotherapy

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

As part of the series of Sunday morning Wellbeing talks, Judy Sharp gave a talk last Sunday on how hypnotherapy can be used to help those suffering from a phobia which is affecting their lives.

After a general introduction to hypnotherapy and to phobias – who knew there were so many? – Judy addressed specific issues from those in the audience, including a fear of cats and a fear of being a passenger in a car.  She gave examples from her own case files of phobias that had been successfully dealt with, and answered a number of questions.

The clear conclusion seems to be that hypnotherapy can indeed be highly effective at getting to the root cause of a phobia – wherever and whatever that may be – and resolving it, allowing the client to move forward with their life.

Overcoming Fears and Phobias with Hypnotherapy

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

There are fears and then there are irrational fears – phobias.
When they interfere with your life, your relationships, your career – it’s time to sort them out!
Join Vinings’ resident hypnotherapist Judy Sharp for a talk on Sunday 21st June from 10am to 12 noon as she explores the real root causes of a wide range of fears and phobias. As she explains, this journey frequently takes her clients back to a past life trauma – once uncovered and resolved, the client is free to move on with his / her life.
It’s fascinating, it’s highly effective – and it could remove those blocks that have been holding you back in your career or your personal life.

The talk is totally free, so come along on Sunday 21st June at 10am – and why not bring a friend too?

Hypnotic Gastric Banding

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

So what exactly is hypnotic gastric banding? How does it work? How does it differ from bariatric surgery? pear with tape measure, portraitBariatric surgery is weight-loss surgery: the term covers a number of procedures, the most common of which are gastric by-pass and gastric banding. This is currently available on the NHS to treat people who have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above – there is a move to have this reduced to 30. Those who have a BMI of 35 or higher and also suffer another serious health condition such as diabetes can also be considered. The operations can also be carried out privately. Typically having a hypnotic gastric band fitted would cost between £5,000 and £9,000, and a gastric by-pass operation would cost anything between £9,000 and £15,000. A gastric band operation is used to reduce the size of the stomach so that not so much food is needed to make you feel full. Imagine your stomach as a figure 0 – when the gastric band is in place it becomes a figure 8 with the top section smaller than the lower section. The top (smaller) section becomes your whole stomach, so of course it does not take as much food to fill it up. In a gastric bypass operation, tubing by-passes past most of the stomach so that less food is actually digested – but this also means that the body cannot extract and process the vital nutrients in the food that is eaten, meaning patients have to stick to a very strict diet with vitamin supplements. There is no doubt that both procedures are very effective and patients can lose up to 1/3 of their total body weight in a matter of months. However, this creates a separate problem – how to cope with the rolls of flab that are left hanging, primarily over the stomach. In many cases a second operation is required to cut this away. The side-effects of such operations can include blood clots and internal bleeding. Interestingly, on the NHS website, it also states that certain conditions including depression will not necessarily be improved by having such surgery. The “fitting” of a hypnotic gastric band is a non-invasive procedure that is done while the client is in a deep state of relaxation rather than under an anaesthetic. I only “fit” a hypnotic gastric band after several sessions with the client in which we uncover and resolve the real underlying emotional reasons why he or she is holding on to excess weight in the first place. It could be for comfort or protection against traumas such as childhood abuse, broken relationships, bullying at home, school or in the workplace,  or even termination of a pregnancy. Once the emotional onion has been peeled, and all of these issues have been dealt with and laid to rest, the client no longer needs that comfort or protection, and is ready to let go of the excess weight. Then – and only then – do we discuss whether he or she actually needs a gastric band at all. If the answer is yes, then it is a normal session where the client goes through a virtual operation, so to speak, from being in a comfortable private hospital room to having the pre-med, then being wheeled into the operating theatre, having the anaesthetic, then the gastric band is fitted, back to the room, come back and all is well.  That is, of course, a simplified version. The client’s unconscious is convinced that there is a real gastric band in place and therefore programmes the physical body accordingly. It is safer, simpler – and far more cost-effective than going under the surgeon’s knife.
